Internships under NEP-2020

A mandatory experiential learning component of the Four-Year Undergraduate Programme, designed to bridge classroom learning with real-world professional and research experience. All internships at Sri Guru Gobind Singh College are conducted as per the guidelines of Panjab University, Chandigarh.

02 Categories Employability or Research Aptitude

Important: Students who wish to exit after the 1st year or 2nd year must complete 4 credits and 120 hours of internship, in addition to the internship prescribed in their course curriculum.

The Department or College may offer one of the following two categories to a student, based on their specific needs, career goals and academic profile.

IEE

Internship for Enhancing Employability

Focused on practical skills, professional behaviour and readiness for the job market — bridging the gap between academic knowledge and industry requirements.

IDRA

Internship for Developing Research Aptitude

Aimed at cultivating research capabilities by involving students directly in research-related activities under the guidance of a mentor or research supervisor.

  • Data collection and data analysis techniques
  • Developing scientific writing skills
  • Preparing reports and presenting findings
  • Understanding research ethics and IPR

College letter addressed to the Internship Providing Organisation, along with the Student Internship Registration cum Approval Form for Session 2026-27. To be filled, signed and submitted to the Internship Supervisor before commencement.

Internship (IEE) Report Template

Prescribed report format — title page, completion certificate, activity logbook, mentor evaluation, student declaration and the tentative table of contents. Every student must submit the final report in this format.

Step by Step

The Internship Process

From registration to the final viva-voce — here is the complete journey every student is expected to follow.

Download the Forms

Download the Registration cum Approval Form and the University Guidelines from the Downloads section on this page.

Identify the Organisation

Opportunities may be identified through the Internship Coordinator, recognised online portals, or proposed independently by the student subject to approval.

Register & Get Approval

Submit the completed form with organisation, mentor and duration details. Approval by the Nodal Officer is mandatory before the internship begins.

Supervisor & Mentor Allotment

An Internship Supervisor is assigned by the College and a Mentor by the host organisation, finalised within 30 days of the commencement of the semester.

Maintain the Activity Logbook

Record weekly activities, skills learned and mentor remarks in the prescribed logbook (Appendix-I) throughout the internship period.

Submit the Report & Certificate

On completion, submit the detailed report in the prescribed template, the signed logbook, mentor feedback and the Internship Completion Certificate.

Appear for the Viva-Voce

Present your work before a two-member internal evaluation committee, including your Internship Supervisor, for final assessment.

Evaluation & Submissions

Evaluation is based on a combination of continuous assessment and final performance review.

Internship Report & Viva-Voce

A detailed report documenting activities, learning outcomes, challenges faced and skills developed, followed by a viva-voce before a two-member internal evaluation committee including the Supervisor. For IDRA, a detailed research report is submitted as per the format decided by the department.

Supervisor’s Evaluation

Feedback from the Internship Supervisor or Mentor at the host organisation, assessing the student’s engagement, skill development, professionalism and attendance on the basis of the Activity Logbook.

To be submitted on completion

  • Internship Completion Certificate (Appendix-IV or V)
  • Detailed Internship Report endorsed by the Mentor
  • Duly signed Activity Logbook (Appendix-I)
  • Mentor Feedback / Evaluation form (Appendix-II or III)
  • Any additional assignments, presentations or evidence of work
