A candidate who has passed one of the following examinations with English as one of the subjects:

(a) +2 examination (or BCom Part-I old scheme of PU) with three of the prescribed subjects securing at least 45% marks in aggregate — from Accountancy, Book-keeping & Accountancy, Business Economics, Business Mathematics, Business Statistics, Commerce, Economics, Mathematics, Mercantile / Company Law, Marketing, Insurance, Taxation, Office Management and similar commerce-related subjects.

(b) +2 Examination with at least two of the subjects mentioned in (a) securing at least 50% marks in aggregate.

(c) +2 Examination not covered in (a) and (b) securing at least 55% marks.

(d) Any other examination recognised by the University as equivalent to (a), (b) or (c) with the requisite percentage of marks.

Merit calculation: Score = percentage in qualifying examination + 2 marks for each commerce-related subject passed (under clause (a)), not exceeding a total score of 8.

Explanation: In case of a compartment candidate, eligibility shall be determined by including the marks of the subject in which the candidate has been placed in compartment.

BCom / BCom Tax Planning & Management - II 3 - Year (NEP) A student who has passed BCom / BCom Tax Planning & Management - I / II from PU Chandigarh or from any other University recognised by PU with same subjects / scheme of the prescribed course or shall have to pass the deficient subjects, subject to the availability of seats.
BCom Honours (4 Years) & BCom Honours with Research (4 Years) 4 - Year Note: 4th Year of all Courses — Honours & Honours with Research will be subject to approval by Panjab University. Year 4 BCom specialisations: Accounting & Finance, Marketing Management, Human Resource Management, or Banking & Insurance — subject to student preferences and minimum enrollment.
General admission rules — Admission to all classes is made strictly as per eligibility and merit criteria laid down by Panjab University depending on available seats. Fraction of marks less than the requisite percentage will not be rounded off in the candidate's favour. Candidates having passed +2 without English from any recognised body are eligible to join BCom, otherwise he / she has to pass the deficient English subject with the parent Board / University in two consecutive chances; failing which admission will automatically stand cancelled. Programme Overview

Theoretical rigour meets applied learning

The BCom curriculum at SGGS is structured under NEP with up to six Discipline Specific Courses (DSCs) across six semesters, supplemented by MDC / IDC, SEC, VAC, English as the Ability Enhancement Course, and Punjabi (or History & Culture of Punjab). The programme combines rigorous coursework in accounting, finance, economics and law with applied learning, and culminates in an Internship in the fifth semester.

Indicative — The subjects below reflect the broad areas covered. The tables are subject to change, as the latest syllabus for the academic year 2026–27 has not yet been released by Panjab University. For the current semester-wise syllabus, please consult the latest Prospectus or Panjab University's official BCom syllabus.

Compulsory Subjects

  • Discipline Specific Courses (DSC): Compulsory core subjects.
  • Multidisciplinary Course (MDC / IDC): Student is required to select 01 subject from the MDC / IDC options.
  • Skill Enhancement Course (SEC): Student is required to select 01 subject from the SEC options.
  • Value Added Course (VAC): Student is required to select 01 subject from the VAC options.
  • Ability Enhancement Course (AEC): English.
  • Punjabi or History & Culture of Punjab: Students who are not domiciled in Punjab and have not passed Punjabi up to class 10th / 12th can opt HCP in place of Punjabi.
  • Internship: Students are required to undertake Internships in approved organisations / institutions to enhance employability skills or research aptitude.

MDC / IDC, SEC & VAC — BCom

  • MDC / IDC (3 credit): MDC-1 — Commercial Law (Sem I), Business Law (Sem II), Company Law (Sem III); MDC-2 — Fundamentals of International Business (Sem I), Foreign Trade Promotion (Sem II).
  • SEC (3 credit): Digital Marketing (Sem I), E-Commerce (Sem II), Personality Development & Professional Skills (Sem III).
  • VAC (2 credit): Environment Science (Sem I), Right to Information & Human Rights (Sem II), Issues in Indian Commerce (Sem IV), Introduction to Consumer Law and Practice (Sem V).

Duration

Three years (six semesters) under Panjab University's NEP curriculum, with an optional fourth year for Honours and Honours with Research tracks — subject to approval by Panjab University.

Honours Track

Year 4 BCom (Multidisciplinary) specialisations: Accounting & Finance, Marketing Management, Human Resource Management, or Banking & Insurance. BCom (Accounting & Finance) students pursue Honours in Accounting & Finance. Final allotment is decided by the College based on student preferences and minimum required enrollment.

BCom graduates from SGGS pursue professional courses such as CA, CS, CMA, and CFA; enter careers in banking, financial services, auditing, taxation and corporate management; or proceed to postgraduate studies including MCom, MBA, and specialised master's programmes.
