About Society
The PAWS Humane Society for Animal Assisted Therapy is a unique, first of its kind initiative which aims to sensitise students about animal welfare, facilitate an environment of dignity and respect between humans and animals and to promote compassion and empathy for all living beings. It was founded with the intention of instilling compassion for all animals and treating them with empathy and affection.
Objectives

To provide unwanted animals in our community with a safe haven, medical treatment, food, and a chance at a second chance at life.

To safeguard animals against cruelty, neglect, indifference, and ignorance.

To educate and inform the public about animal issues, as well as to assist in the development of short- and long-term community-based solutions to such issues.

To sensitize students and create an environment of dignity and respect between humans and animals.

To turn campus into a dog-friendly vicinity.

To initiate pet therapy programs that bring dogs to students who needs a break from the stressful environment.

The Paws Humane Society for Animal Assisted Therapy was founded in the Sri Guru Gobind Singh College, Sector 26, Chandigarh to educate students and foster an environment of dignity and respect between humans and animals. It was founded with the intention of instilling compassion for all animals and treating them with empathy and affection.
The Society organised an Inter-College Online Caption Writing Contest titled "Paws Reflect" to commemorate International Day for Biological Diversity on May 23, 2022 in collaboration with National Biodiversity Authority, India and Punjab Biodiversity Board in order to further its goal of compassion and understanding for all living species. Captions were invited in three languages (English, Punjabi, Hindi). The result of the same was declared on May 24, 2022. The winners are awarded cash prizes sponsored by the Punjab Biodiversity Board.
